One of the premier events on the American racing calendar, the 10th running of the American Le Mans Series’ Petit Le Mans endurance classic will be contested this Saturday at Road Atlanta. The renowned 1,000-mile/10-hour race marks a crucial point in the series’ championship standings with only two rounds of competition remaining.
Lowe’s Fernandez Racing drivers Adrian Fernandez and Luis Diaz will be making their sports car debuts at the fast 2.54-mile, 12-turn road course this weekend, sharing driving duties of the #15 Lowe’s Acura Lola. The pair turned their first laps at Road Atlanta two weeks ago (September 17-18) during a promising two-day test session.
Fernandez and Diaz netted their best ALMS result to date of second in the season-opening endurance race, the Twelve Hours of Sebring. They are currently fifth in the LMP2 class standings, 17 points out of third place, heading into the final rounds at Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca. ALMS races of eight hours or more in duration pay six additional points to the first through 10th-place finishers.
