Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty, Jimmy Vasser and their No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Pontiac-powered Riley found themselves in familiar territory after testing concluded this evening for Saturday’s Sunchaser 1000k – right at the top of the time charts. While lap times of the 4.5-mile Miller Motorsports Park were not officially recorded, as the sessions were unsanctioned, GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing’s all-American troika made good use of the day’s track time, familiarizing themselves with the challenging circuit and developing setup ideas for tomorrow.

Driver/Owner Quotes:

Alex Gurney: “We did well in testing – I only did a couple laps right at the beginning, but I was quick right off the bat and I think that time held up all day long. I didn’t really get to feel much of the car, but what I did feel was solid, and we learned quite a bit from Jimmy’s stint, so I’m optimistic for tomorrow. ”

Jon Fogarty: “Today was pretty much about just getting in the car and refamiliarizing myself with the track before we really get going tomorrow. It’s definitely tough to see in the evening, as the front straight is aimed at the sunset, but that’ll be Alex’s problem in the race. I think we’ve got a good baseline. ”

Jimmy Vasser: “I enjoyed the drive – the GAINSCO car’s so nice, it made it real easy for me to get back in. Everything’s comfortable, and even though it’s a high-energy, high-pressure situation, things are totally relaxed with the team. I think we’re all prepared for Saturday. ”

Bob Stallings: “The goal was to get the Red Dragon reasonably well dialed in, and while there’s a couple issues to deal with yet, we really liked our times overall. I’m delighted to have Jimmy on our team – he jumped in and was up to speed right off the bat. He’s a solid pro and I get tickled watching him. ”
