Fernando Alonso is adamant that Renault can still be a title contender despite its poor start to the season.
“We made a good start from P9 to P3 and after that we had to defend our position because we were slow,” said Alonso, who was eventually classified 11th.
“We stay optimistic for the next race in Shanghai and we remain determined to continue fighting for the championship.”

The Spanish driver could do no better than 11th, and said that his Renault car was always with the wrong tyres at every point of the race, despite a good start which took the Spaniard to third for a time.
Fernando Alonso said the decision to abandon the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday was the correct one.
