Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is one of the classic sports car venues in the world, just as Dyson Racing’s Andy Wallace is one of the all-time great drivers. This season marks 10 years since Wallace’s first appearance at the circuit and the first time since 2001 that close friend and former Dyson pilot James Weaver won’t be in attendance. Wallace recently spoke about both as he prepares to drive with Andy Wallace in the Dyson No. 16 Porsche RS Spyder.
For drivers and fans:
“I have sort of a love-hate relationship with Laguna. It’s a great layout I really like the Corkscrew, the twists and the turns. But unfortunately it’s such a low-grip track that there is absolutely no grip at all. You spend your whole life trying to get the wheels to stop spinning, trying to get any grip. So from that point of view it is infuriating as a driver. But if you get the setup right and somehow find a way to grip the track then it’s a good track. But it’s also another one where you can walk all the way around the track, you can sit on top of the hill and you can see many corners from there. It’s a really good track and of course the climate is always nice that time year. “

“James (Weaver) is a great friend of mine and still is and we only live about an hour apart in England. It would be pretty nice if he would come and watch the race just for once but I don’t know if he will or not. I think he got cheesed off with traveling all over the world which I don’t blame him; it’s quite a stressful thing. But it’s going to be a good race, as I say it’s a competitive Series and the way the IMSA Cup is shaping up on the points I think we are only 1 point behind in second place. ”
