Rubens Barrichello said his team is talking with the young Brazilian — nephew of three-time F1 champion Ayrton Senna and runner-up in this season’s GP2 feeder series — to try to negotiate a deal for next year.
“If I could give him an advice, from a guy who likes the Senna family, I would tell him not to come to (Honda),” Barrichello said. “Not because of my situation, but because I think that with his lack of experience, he may waste an opportunity.”
Barrichello said Bruno Senna should refrain from rushing into Formula One racing and pointed to countryman Nelson Piquet Jr., who is struggling with Renault this season and could lose his seat in 2009.
Barrichello is Formula One’s most experienced driver but has yet to decide where he will drive in his 17th season. The 36-year-old Brazilian said he wanted to stay at Honda, but acknowledged that he may need to seek other options.
“There is a lot of silence at Honda right now and I think this is tiresome,” Barrichello said. “I’ve never been in a situation like this, without a contract for next year this late in the season.”
“I’ve made it clear that if someone offers me a good contract for the next three years, I’ll sign it,” Barrichello said. “I see my future in a F1 car, but if it doesn’t happen, it’s not the end of the world.”
