BMW Mechanic Suffers KERS Shock BMW Motorsport

BMW-Sauber have suspended testing of its Kinetic Energy Recovery System following an incident with one of their mechanics this morning while testing in Jerez, Spain.

After extensive dyno testing, BMW-Sauber brought their KERS to Jerez on the F1.07C car, which was driven by test driver Christian Klien on Tuesday.

“Right after the installation laps in the morning there was an incident involving a mechanic,” the team said in a statement. “When the car returned to the pits, he touched it and suffered an electrical shock. He sustained slight injuries to his left hand and grazing on his left arm.”

The incident occurred on the first morning of a four-day test at the Jerez circuit in Spain and raised concerns over the safety of the new Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) device, which recovers energy generated under braking and stores it in a battery to be channelled back into the car.
