Britain’s Jenson Button in a Brawn GP led throughout to win the Australian Formula One Grand Prix here on Sunday.
Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello was second ahead of Italian Jarno Trulli in a Toyota.
It was Button’s second GP win in his 154th race following his success in 2006 in Hungary with Honda.
The Briton, whose career was hanging by a thread as the former Honda Racing team fought for survival over the winter, wiped out memories of the last two dismal years by claiming his second career victory ahead of team-mate Rubens Barrichello.
It was the first time since 1977 that a team had won its debut race.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and BMW’s Robert Kubica collided while running second and third with only four laps to go, ending their races.
Equally impressive was world champion Lewis Hamilton who claimed a morale-boosting fourth for McLaren after a fine drive through the field from 18th on the grid.
The second Toyota of Timo Glock was another back-to-front success story in fifth, ahead of Renault’s Fernando Alonso who unsurprisingly brought his Renault home in the points despite a difficult weekend.
Ferrari, meanwhile, endured a nightmare start to the season for the second successive year with neither of its drivers finishing in the points.
After a strong start off the start line in their KERS-equipped F60’s, both Raikkonen and Felipe Massa faded in the first stint as their soft tyres quickly dropped off in performance.
