The biggest celebrity touted to be in town for F1 was football superstar David Beckham.
At the Paddock Club within the F1 venue last Saturday night at around 10pm, he was said to have caused a commotion as he and Spanish world No. 1 tennis star Rafael Nadal apparently turned up before being ushered into a VIP suite. The only problem: No one was able to snap a picture as evidence (darn!).
Bollywood siren Shilpa Shetty, most famous for causing a stir in British reality show Big Brother last year, was also said to be here yesterday to cheer on the Force India team. F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone had invited her to the event.
“I love fast cars and this race is going to create history as it’s the first time that we will be watching the Grand Prix at night,” Shetty said.
The ones seen about town were F1 drivers themselves, who visited various nightspots and events.
The parties began with a Red Bull weekend starter last Thursday night. Red Bull drivers Australian Mark Webber, Briton David Coulthard and German Sebastian Vettel made a brief appearance at the event at Siloso Beach’s Cafe Del Mar.
The trio arrived to much fanfare, with the 1,500-strong crowd clustering around them to take pictures. But they stayed only 10 minutes before returning to their hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore.
