When auto racing superstar Danica Patrick’s name surfaced recently in reports about an all-new Formula One racing team, it was news to her.
“Sexy driver set to be F1’s first female in 18 years,” said the headline on one of several stories linking the 26-year-old IndyCar driver and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model to a team reportedly being launched next Tuesday in the U.S.
“She’s great. She gets a lot of press,” USF1 technical director Ken Anderson said about the most famous woman auto racing driver in the world. “I don’t know if it’s something she wants to do. We’d certainly love to test her and go from there.”
Patrick, who was at the Toronto International Auto Show yesterday to help promote the official launch of ticket sales for the Honda Indy Toronto race, July 10-12 at Exhibition Place, said she was flattered to be mentioned “in the same sentence as Formula One” but that’s as far as it went.
But Patrick has played down the comments, stating that while she is thrilled to have been linked with a F1 team it is all just talk at the moment.
“They haven’t spoken to me,” she said.
“It’s very flattering. I think that any time you are in the same sentence as Formula One, it’s a flattering thing.”
