Sports Car: Davy Jones Returns Home to Lime Rock Park Poised For Victory ICY Racing

A native of the area, Davy Jones likely has more experience at Lime Rock than the rest of the field combined. Jones has competed in a variety of race cars at the Park, from Formula Ford and Super Vee to the Jaguar (XJR14) IMSA GTP…and he’s won in every class. This weekend Jones will return to the track where his legendary career started, he’ll compete in the Koni Challenge race, driving the #141 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT for ICY/Phoenix Racing.

Jones’ last appearance at Lime Rock Park came in 1993, he won the pole position and set a new track record in the Bud Light Jaguar (XJR14). Since then, he’s become one of seven Americans to win the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans and earned the third closest finish in the history of the Indy 500. “It’s great to go back to Lime Rock Park. I started my racing career there and developed the skills to be a good race driver. I’ve got a lot of great memories racing there, a lot of wins and I am looking for a win again this weekend in the Subaru,” said Jones.

Jones joined the factory Subaru effort earlier this season. He finished eighth in his debut at Miami and set the fastest lap of the race last weekend at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway while challenging for a podium finish. Jones fought back from a mid-race penalty which relegated him to 14th and charged through the field, setting a new ST track record en-route to his fourth place finish. Jones commented, “Our Subaru’s have been very competitive and I feel that I am going to Lime Rock to win. We’ve just come off a very strong effort at Laguna Seca, the team is doing a great job and this gives us a lot of confidence going into the race weekend at Lime Rock Park. “

Practice and qualifying for the Grand Am GT Classic at Lime Rock Park kicks off Friday, May 25th. The 163-lap or 2.5 hour sprint race takes place at 2:15 ET on Saturday, May 26th. For more information, news and results, follow Davy and the ICY/Phoenix Racing team at www.ICYRacing.com.
