When Crispin’s crew unloaded the Royal Purple/Mac’s/Tynis Construction Mazda RX-7 off the trailer for Saturday’s competition, the car handled perfectly. A minor wiring problem was fixed after tech inspection and Beaver was ready to qualify. Crispin lit up the track throughout the twenty-minute session, scoring the second quickest time of the morning.
The crew didn’t get the car lined up in time for the race so Crispin had to start in the back. After running competitive laps and leading his class Beaver was forced to the sidelines with oil pressure problems. The crew later found small metallic shavings in the oil pan but fortunately the car was stopped before any major engine damage occurred. The team was pleased at the handling of the new car and the engine gremlins are expected to be minor.
