Ferrari say that Felipe Massa’s recovery is continuing to go ‘very well’ after team principal Stefano Domenicali visited the Brazilian driver at his Sao Paulo home on Sunday.
Massa sustained fractures to his skull after his helmet was struck by a loose component from another car during qualifying for the last round of the championship in Hungary, just over three weeks ago.
“Felipe is in excellent form and his recovery is going very well!” Domenicali told Ferrari’s official website, after meeting with his injured driver. “I’m very happy about Felipe’s state.” Formula 1
“The medical checks that have been carried out over the last two weeks continue to be very encouraging. Now it’s important to be patient and take one step at a time, without any hurry.”
Massa, last year’s championship runner-up, spent several days in an induced coma and on a respirator in hospital after he was hit just above his left eye by a bouncing spring from Rubens Barrichello’s Brawn car during qualifying for the race. Yahoo! Eurosport
Massa has set himself the target of rejoining the F1 fray in time for Ferrari’s home race at Monza in mid-September, but the team has not put any timeframe on his return.
Ferrari’s long-serving test driver Luca Badoer will deputise for Massa at the forthcoming European Grand Prix in Valencia after Michael Schumacher cancelled his comeback plans due to an unresolved neck injury. ITV
