Ferrari’s Luca Badoer topped the timesheets for a second consecutive day as testing continued at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya on Friday. Badoer’s best lap, a 1m21.013s, was over three-tenths quicker than that of McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa in second.
With dry conditions throughout the session, Badoer ran 95 laps of the Spanish circuit, despite a technical problem stopping his car on track at one point. The Italian continued experimenting with various new aerodynamic solutions in preparation for the next few races of the season, as well as trying different set-ups on the F2008.
Pedro de la Rosa took over testing duties at McLaren Mercedes from Gary Paffett and put in 111 laps over the day to record the second fastest lap of the day, two-tenths up on Timo Glock who joined the Toyota test hot off his points-paying result in Montreal on Sunday.
Nico Rosberg took over from Nico Hulkenberg and set the fourth fastest time in the Williams Toyota, while David Coulthard had the Red Bull Renault all to himself as he set the fifth fastest time.
Championship leader Robert Kubica completed his two-day programme for BMW Sauber, the Pole continuing aerodynamic and mechanical work in preparation for the French Grand Prix.
Kubica’s team-mate Nick Heidfeld will wrap up the test for BMW tomorrow with the German hoping to make progress on his problems in qualifying.
