The Formula 1 world championship will comprise a record 20 races next season, the FIA confirmed on Wednesday after its World Motor Sport Council ratified the 2011 calendar.
The season will again begin in Bahrain in mid-March, but will finish two weeks later than this year, on 27 November.
Brazil’s atmospheric Interlagos venue will stage the finale for the first time since 2008, swapping places with Abu Dhabi, which will become the penultimate fixture. ITV
Furthermore, the FIA revealed it will keep the F1 entry list at 12 teams for the 2011 and ‘12. The sanctioning body decided that none of the those bidding for a 13th entry next season met the necessary requirements.
The FIA said in a statement “a number of interested parties expressed their interest. It was considered that none of the candidates met the requirements to be granted an entry into the championship.” Toronto Sun
The new Indian Grand Prix has been slotted into the calendar as the third last race of the 2011 season, to be held on October 30, although FIA warned that it was subject to the circuit close to New Delhi passing inspection.
Abu Dhabi will now be the penultimate race on November 13 and the concluding Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos on November 27. AFP
