Former driver Alex Wurz is targeting a return to Formula 1 as team boss for new Austrian outfit Team Superfund.
The former Benetton and Williams driver has revealed Team Superfund has submitted an entry to governing body the FIA to join the grid in 2010.
“I was always interested in going into team management,” said Wurz, 35, who last raced for Williams in 2007.

Having worked with the Benetton, McLaren, Williams and Honda teams, Wurz is currently linked to the Brawn GP outfit but it seems the 34-year-old Austrian is now prepared to bring his F1 career to another level.
Despite the opposition coming from the majority of existing teams against the budget cap plan imposed by FIA President Max Mosley, and despite the ongoing talks concerning the matter, there is no doubt that the cost limitations introduced into the F1 world have brought about keen interest from several groups – exactly as Mosley expected.
The Team Superfund project has been looking into key people, but with more team inscriptions than places available on the Formula One grid, it is understandably waiting confirmation of its participation in the 2010 championship before going any further with the purchase of facilities and hiring of personnel. “The team is starting from a very solid platform. It is also different from the other entries we have seen talked about,” Wurz said. “They are all either returning constructors or existing teams from other formula – what I like to call petrolheads – who are possibly keen to go F1 racing because it’s the pinnacle of motor racing.
The 34-year-old Austrian says that plans for the team’s structure remain fluid until it becomes clear whether new teams will be able to receive assistance from existing F1 constructors, and if so to what extent.

“A lot depends on what happens,” he said. “We have two main business plans in place, and we have submitted these to the FIA along with our entry application.
“We will need to get up and running quickly so we have a plan for both scenarios; either receiving assistance from existing teams or setting up as an independent team. Telegraph.co.uk
