Vettel brought the curtain down on the final practice session this campaign with the quickest time around the Yas Marina circuit. The Red Bull driver, who has to finish in the top two to stand any chance of becoming the youngest champion in Formula One history, posted a lap of one minute 40.696secs for the 5.554km track.
The 23-year-old German finished just 0.133secs ahead of his team-mate Mark Webber, with both narrowly ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s best of yesterday.
Hamilton, who had complained of vibrations in his McLaren following his installation lap, had to settle for third, almost six tenths of a second down on Vettel and four tenths of a second worse off than his time in the second practice.
