Lewis Hamilton produced further evidence to suggest McLaren have a very competitive package for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as he completed a clean sweep of fastest practice times for the team on Saturday morning.
After a Friday he described as “really positive”, Hamilton had already been fastest at the end of the early medium tyre runs before setting two laps late-on during his soft tyre run which would have been good enough to seal top spot – his final one of 1m38.976s putting him four tenths of a second clear of the Red Bull pair of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
The RBR duo had the edge through the short first sector of the lap but Hamilton was consistently able to stretch his MP4-26’s legs as the lap progressed, with his car appearing particularly planted in the tricky final sector – although Vettel was perhaps slowed by traffic on his final lap.
