Adrian Sutil pulled out a 1m25.701 on a drying track to go fastest in the first practice session of the German grand prix weekend at Hockenheim, ending the 90-minutes ahead of Felipe Massa and Jenson Button in the sole-remaining McLaren.
Rain battered the Rhine Valley as the first practice session of the German grand prix weekend at Hockenhiem got underway, and drivers began their programs with tentative installation laps on extreme wet tyres, of which they only have three sets per car, per weekend.
With more wet weather predicted for the race on Sunday, teams were unable to run their programs in full to find the optimal setups, as they had to preserve their grooved rubber, and this caused some issues for those looking to test new parts.

Both Sauber and McLaren reintroduced their own interpretations of the blown rear diffuser, while Red Bull ironically reverted back to their old front wing, after causing uproar with the new version at Silverstone.

With the track not drying up until the closing stages, Felipe Massa had 1:26.850 in a Ferrari and world champion Jenson Button was third for McLaren in 1:26.936.
Button’s team-mate Hamilton, meanwhile, trailed in 17th place with 1:29.429 before he lost control in turn three and wrecked the back of the car when hitting a tyre wall, leaving the pit crew with lots of work ahead of the afternoon session. The Hindu
Rubens Barrichello followed ahead of Vitaly Petrov, Nico Rosberg, Sebastien Buemi, Nico Hulkenberg and Tonio Liuzzi, with Pedro de La Rosa rounding out the top 10.
Sebastian Vettel was 11th, while Red Bull team-mate Webber could only manage 14th.
Hamilton – seventh and flying at the time of his incident – finished 17th, with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari only able to take 19th and seven-times champion Michael Schumacher 23rd after problems with his Mercedes. Yahoo! Eurosport UK
