Brazilian Rubens Barrichello overcame torrential rain conditions at his hometrack to take the pole position for Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix, while his Brawn GP teammate Jenson Button and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel had a qualifying session they would rather forget.
“I am very, very happy with the situation, and it is great to see that all the people stayed to see it because they went through a heavy period of rain,” said Barrichello, who delighted his home crowd after claiming his first pole in 88 grand prix.
Barrichello was the only one of the three championship contenders remaining to qualify in the top-10.
“It was a great drive, and it may be that we have less fuel than them, but it is much better to start at the front and have your own race pace than be towards the middle of the pack,” Barrichello added. MiamiHerald.com
The 37-year-old Barrichello finished in 1 minute, 19.576 seconds under extremely wet conditions on the 2.6-mile track, 0.092 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber and 0.336 in front of Force India’s Adrian Sutil.
Toyota’s Jarno Trulli will start fourth after a lap of 1:20.097, and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen fifth after posting 1:20.168. The Associated Press
