Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of recording back-to-back Formula One victories were given a boost after he clocked the quickest time in the final practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The McLaren racer, a winner in Turkey two weeks ago, edged out Formula One points leader Mark Webber by 0.282 seconds.

Hamilton recorded a fastest lap of one minute, 16.058 seconds at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve track - the venue of the Briton’s first ever F1 victory back in 2007.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finished third fastest, followed by Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher. SkySports

Sebastien Vettel was fifth at 1:16.582 for Red Bull and Robert Kubica was sixth in 1:16.653 in a Renault.

During the one-hour practice, Ferrari veteran Felipe Massa brushed a wall and suffered some front damage and Luca DiGrassi of Virgin Racing touched a wall and spun into gravel going into a hairpin turn on his final lap. TSN
