Fernando Alonso insists he is relishing his return to Renault despite accepting it is highly unlikely he will add to his two Formula One world championships in 2008.
“Coming back to Renault for me is a great challenge, and for them too, ” he said. “I think because they are extra motivated this year to have the success we have had in the past and I am extra motivated as well. We all have the same goal and the same target.
“I really don’t care too much, ” he added. “It seems that Flavio (Briatore, Renault team principal) speaks every week, now Ron as well. It’s not very important to me. “
“I’m concentrating on this first race. We still have a lot of work to do on the car if we want to be competitive enough to fight for races and victories, so I really don’t care what people say. “
“We have all done pretty much similar long runs on both sets of tyres. It looks very close. They (Ferrari) seem to be having the same problems as we had last year. Last season they were much easier on their tyres, whereas this year we look equal. “
“The new fuel regulations will make it interesting in the first couple of races with people trying different things. It is not easy going out with a heavy fuel load trying to get the lap time. But I’m confident, ” Hamilton said.
“In all my years of racing I have never competed in a night race, apart from indoor karting. I think it will be wicked. ” Hamilton said.
