Sebastian Vettel ensured that Red Bull Racing remained on top in Hungary after topping second free practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

As was the case in the opening session, the fight for top spot was initially a fight between Vettel and team-mate Mark Webber as the Milton Keynes-based squad continued to lead the way, with the duo swapping position on top of the times.

Vettel eventually prevailed as he set a time of 1min 20.087secs on the super soft Bridgestone tyres although the German could have dipped into the 1min 19secs without hitting traffic entering the final corners on what was set to be an even quicker time.

The gap to the rest was halved in the second session however, with Fernando Alonso managing to get within half a second of Vettel’s benchmark as he also managed to split the Red Bull duo. Yahoo! Eurosport UK

Renault driver Vitaly Petrov rounded out the top five as the Enstone-based team built on Robert Kubica’s third place in first practice.

Constructors’ Championship leaders McLaren look to be struggling to match the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari again after Lewis Hamilton’s best effort of 1:21.308 was only good enough for sixth.

Kubica and the Williams of Nico Hulkenberg grabbed seventh and eighth spot respectively with Jenson Button back in ninth.

Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher rounded out the top 10, 1.686 seconds down on Vettel, who is now the hot favourite to take his seventh pole position of the season. Sky Sports
