Jaime Alguersuari has reportedly turned down an offer to drive for HRT this year, saying it would be a backward step.
The Spaniard was left without a Formula One race-seat after being dropped by Toro Rosso in a move that shocked many in the F1 community, including the driver himself. SkySports
Alguersuari’s axing immediately sparked rumours that Spanish team HRT could be his next destination as he bids to remain in the sport.
But new team boss Luis Perez Sala has hinted that a driver with bigger sponsorship backing would be a more attractive team-mate for Pedro de la Rosa.
Red Bull’s reserve role went to his former team-mate Sebastien Buemi.
“Jaime still has options to be third driver in one of the top teams,” according to sports daily AS, who also quoted Alguersuari as saying the move would represent “a backwards step for his career.” ESPN F1
