Red Bull’s Mark Webber won the Brazilian Grand Prix to take his first victory of the season in the final race after Sebastian Vettel hit trouble.
Vettel led from the start but ran into gearbox problems. He let Webber past and concentrated on ensuring he got to the finish in second place.
McLaren’s Jenson Button and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso battled for third, with Button getting past with 10 laps left.
Button’s team-mate Lewis Hamilton retired with a gearbox failure.

Button third place sealed second spot in the championship, while Webber moved ahead of Alonso into third by just one point.
Webber’s victory will be a relief from the Australian, who had faced the prospect of finishing without a win in a season which Vettel has dominated throughout, taking 11 wins and a record 15 pole positions from 19 grands prix. BBC Sport
There were doubts about the exact nature of Sebastian Vettel’s gearbox problems, which were first reported as early as lap 13. Then, a few laps before the halfway stage of the race, Vettel let Webber through before – a few laps later on – setting the fastest lap of the race.
But there were no doubts about Hamilton’s trouble. His problems became known on the 37th lap but he was told there was nothing he could do about it. He retired just as he and his old adversary Felipe Massa were squaring up for another of their “magnetic” moments.
As he walked away, Hamilton was left to reflect on his most frustrating season in Formula One: “I think it’s been an interesting year,” he said.
“Today, I gave it my all. I enjoyed the race and it’s a little bit unfortunate that we weren’t able to get extra points. I was challenging Felipe [Massa] at the end and was hoping I could get him but the gearbox didn’t last.
“It’s been a long, long year and I’m looking forward to a little bit of downtime with family and friends. There is a lot to improve on but I feel it’s all positive even though we didn’t have a great result today.” The Guardian
The McLaren showed Red Bull speed at last, as the Ferrari struggled, and on the 62nd lap Button retrieved his podium slot, leaving Alonso fourth well ahead of team mate Felipe Massa.
An excellent sixth place fell to three-stopping Adrian Sutil after an uncompromising fight with Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes, and with two-stopping Paul di Resta eighth it was another good race for Force India.
Ninth place for Kamui Kobayashi was sufficient to keep Sauber in seventh place overall as Renault’s Vitaly Petrov defended 10th position and the final point from late attack by Jaime Alguersuari’s Toro Rosso. Sauber thus ended the year with 44 points to Toro Rosso’s 41.
Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi was 12th ahead of Sergio Perez, who lost places after a spin while Rubens Barrichello was Williams’ only finisher in 14th, in what could be have been his 327th and final F1 appearance, after Pastor Maldonado stopped out on the track after 26 laps.
Behind Schumacher, Heikki Kovalainen’s 18th position ensured Team Lotus of the lucrative 10th place overall, with Senna 17th ahead of Jarno Trulli’s Lotus, Jerome D’Ambrosio’s strongly-driven Virgin and Daniel Ricciardo’s HRT. The Australian had been trailing team mate Tonio Liuzzi, whose car stopped with 10 laps to go. Formula 1
