Red Bull appeared ominously fast during the opening practice session for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel set the pace from team-mate Mark Webber, with the two a second quicker than their nearest rivals around the tight, twisty track.
Renault’s Robert Kubica was third fastest, with world champion Jenson Button fourth for McLaren.
Ferrari seemed to struggle for balance - Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were around two seconds off the pace.

F1 Standings Ahead of Hungarian Grand Prix
Massa, who set the first timed lap of the session, was back on track at the Hungaroring for the first time since he suffered near-fatal head injuries in an accident there a year ago.
The Brazilian missed last year’s race after being hit on the helmet during qualifying by a bouncing spring that had broken loose from compatriot Rubens Barrichello’s Brawn. BBC Sport
Rubens Barrichello had an encouraging start and was fifth for Williams, less than two tenths off JB, while Pedro de la Rosa was also on form and sixth for Sauber, fractionally in front of German Grand Prix ‘winner’ Fernando Alonso and then the Mercedes GP cars of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top ten, the last of the runners in the 1 minute 22 second bracket.
Further down the order, Adrian Sutil was eleventh as Force India evaluated its blown diffuser. He finished FP1, 0.004 seconds ahead of Felipe Massa, who of course is returning to the scene of his horror crash at the Hungaroring twelve months ago.
Renault man and F1 2010 rookie, Vitaly Petrov came in 13th, followed by Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi and Force India’s test and reserve driver, Paul di Resta. di Resta, unlike Sutil though, wasn’t running with the new diffuser. Yahoo! Eurosport UK
Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari were 16th and 17th for Toro Rosso, with respective laps of 1m 23.780s and 1m 23.868s, and Lewis Hamilton was a troubled 18th on 1m 24.075s for McLaren.
Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen headed the new teams in their Lotuses, with 1m 25.032s and 1m 25.210s, then came the Virgins of Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi on 1m 25.990s and 1m 26.686s. Bruno Senna and Sakon Yamamoto brought up the rear for HRT, with 1m 26.990s and 1m 28.157s.
Apart from Petrov’s spin, the only other incident of note was Sutil’s early rotation in Turn Two. Formula 1
