Red Bull continued their complete dominance of the British Grand Prix weekend by taking a one-two in qualifying at Silverstone.
Sebastian Vettel grabbed pole position with a lap of one minute 29.615 seconds, with team-mate Mark Webber behind him on the front row of the grid.
The Ferrari of Fernando Alonso will start from third spot while British driver Lewis Hamilton claimed fourth place.
World champion Jenson Button disappointed in front of his home crowd, failing to make it through to the final part of qualifying after only managing the 14th fastest time in Q2.
Nico Rosberg once again out-qualified seven-time world champion team-mate Michael Schumacher and will start fifth, a welcome boost after Mercedes’ nightmare weekend at the European Grand Prix. SkySports
Vettel, who secured his second consecutive pole position, praised the Silverstone circuit after qualifying.
“I really like the track and fortunately our cars work really well here,” Vettel said.
“I can only say, again and again, it’s so much fun. The speed you reach is such fun, the new section is also great, especially eleven and twelve,” he added.
Mark Webber was pleased with his showing after his horrific crash at the European Grand Prix two weekends ago.
“Coming back here after what happened was not ideal, but it’s been a good weekend for me. The team has done a good job. I look forward to tomorrow,” Webber said afterwards.

Rubens Barrichello will start eighth for Williams on 1m 31.175s, with Pedro de la Rosa (1m 31.274s) and Michael Schumacher (1m 31.430s) sharing row five for BMW Sauber and Mercedes respectively.
Neither of the Force Indias made it through, despite Adrian Sutil pushing really hard to record 1m 31.399s and Vitantonio Liuzzi’s straight-line speed deficit (4 km/h) kept him to 1m 31.708s. That left them 11th and 15th, with Kamui Kobayashi 12th for BMW Sauber on 1m 31.421s, Nico Hulkenberg 13th for Williams on 1m 31.635s and a very disappointed Jenson Button only 14th on 1m 31.699s in the second McLaren. That is assuredly not where the reigning champion had envisaged starting. He just didn’t get the car sorted.
Renault’s Vitaly Petrov looked very strong in Q1, but had an electronic problem at the start of Q2 and played no really part in it. He lines up 16th on 1m 31.796s, ahead of Sebastien Buemi, who took his Toro Rosso round in 1m 32.012s.
Further back, Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari had 17th place until a late improvement put Liuzzi in Q2, so the Spaniard was the first faller with 1m 32.430s. Behind him Heikki Kovalainen jumped ahead of Timo Glock’s improved Virgin as he popped in a 1m 34.405 for Lotus. Glock was 20th with a challenging 1m 34.775s, with Jarno Trulli next in the second Lotus on 1m 34.864s and Virgin’s Lucas di Grassi 22nd on 1m 35.212s. At the back, Karun Chandhok lapped his HRT in 1m 36.576s, with team mate Sakon Yamamoto last on 1m 36.968s. Formula 1
