Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was quickest in final practice for the Turkish Grand Prix, but not before being one of several drivers snared by the notorious Turn Eight.
Vettel, team-mate Mark Webber and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton all fell victim to the 130mph triple-apex left-hander as they pushed their cars to the limit.
It was Vettel, though, who took the honours with the quickest lap of the weekend to date with one minute 27.086 seconds, 1.2secs faster than Friday’s best from reigning world champion Button.
The German did survive a run-off late on and now appears in good shape to continue his team’s streak of six consecutive poles.
Vettel finished 0.273secs clear of compatriot Nico Rosberg for Mercedes, with Hamilton a further 0.037secs adrift after an eventful hour-long session. SkySports
Team-mate Mark Webber ended in fourth but it was far from plain sailing for the Australian - winner of the previous two races - as a lack of throttle demand on the engine caused him to miss the first half of the session.
Renault’s Robert Kubica was fifth ahead of Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher of Mercedes, with Alonso’s colleague Felipe Massa ninth.
Force India suffered a nightmare by their standards. Adrian Sutil was unable to last beyond his installation lap due to a loss of hydraulic pressure which could not be corrected in time for him to reappear, while
Vitantonio Liuzzi was a disappointing 16th - bettering only the Williams of Rubens Barrichello and the representatives of Lotus, Virgin and Hispania respectively.
In the late stages Webber lost control at turns one, four and eight, while Karun Chandhok also struggled at the latter and Alonso came close to trashing his Ferrari at turn four. Yahoo! Eurosport
