McLaren

Britain’s Lewis Hamilton and Formula One champion Jenson Button led a McLaren one-two at the top of the timesheets in first free practice for the Turkish Grand Prix.

Hamilton, the 2008 champion, was nearly a second quicker than his compatriot with a best lap of one minute 28.653 seconds around the undulating anti-clockwise Istanbul Park track to the Asian side of the city.

Button, last year’s winner in Turkey with what he described then as a ‘monster’ of a Brawn, was 0.962 slower with seven times world champion Michael Schumacher third for Mercedes with a time 1.097 slower than Hamilton’s.

The German was followed by two compatriots, team mate Nico Rosberg and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, who was 1.2 seconds off the leading pace. Yahoo! Eurosport

Webber had to settle for the eighth quickest time, 1.444secs adrift of Hamilton, with the Renault pairing of Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov strongly placed in sixth and seventh.

It is also likely Ferrari have yet to show their hand as Fernando Alonso was over 1.6secs behind in ninth, whilst team-mate Felipe Massa was a lowly 13th, a staggering 2.2secs down.

Adrian Sutil completed the top 10 in his Force India, only to blot his copybook in the closing stages when he came out of one of the most demanding corners in F1 - the triple-apex Turn Eight - with too much speed, ending up in a tyre barrier with a severely-damaged car. The Press Association
