Jenson Button managed to pip Nico Rosberg for the fastest time in Friday’s second practice session, with Lewis Hamilton third in front of Michael Schumacher and Mark Webber.
The world champion Sebastian Vettel did not run in the afternoon because in the much wetter morning session, in which Fernando Alonso was fastest, he crashed into the barriers after running wide at turn eight, with the car sustaining significant damage.
It leaves Vettel with only 60 minutes of running in Saturday’s final session to acclimatise himself to the circuit before the qualifying showdown. The Guardian

The session was red flagged with 27 minutes remaining, with marshals clearing mud off the track while the battered Red Bull was hoisted onto a flatbed truck and brought back to the pitlane.
“There was some water on the exit. There was nothing I could do,” he said over the team radio after his car skidded down the barriers to a halt.
Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was second on the timing screens, ahead of McLaren’s 2010 race winner Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.
