“Coming into a new season, turning over a new leaf, we really wanted to get off on the right foot,” said Hamilton, who missed out on the title last year by a single point to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

“It’s quite different to my first win in Montreal, just because that was really not expected,” he added.
“This win perhaps feels better than any because I feel I’ve improved in many areas.
“I wouldn’t say it’s the perfect win… but I think in terms of managing my tyres, controlling my pace and confidence and being comfortable in the car, it’s the best race I’ve had so far,” Hamilton said.

2. Malaysian Grand Prix
Pole Winner: Felipe Massa
Race Winner: Kimi Raikkonen

“The only negative for Ferrari was the failure by pole-sitter Felipe Massa to finish. He spun off under no pressure while running in second place just after the halfway mark. “It’s a shame that Felipe was unable to let us bring home a (one-two) result that was within our grasp,” Raikkonen said.
“From then on, with a clear track ahead of me, the car was perfect, I was able to control the situation without having to stress the car or the tires,” Raikkonen said. “We have had a very complicated start to the season, but I have certainly not lost faith in the team — we can still do better.”

3. Bahrain Grand Prix
Pole Winner: Robert Kubica
Race Winner: Felipe Massa

Massa said: “I had a good start, whilst Robert didn’t, and then the race was difficult at the beginning because there was a lot of oil on the track.
“But during the race the car was very good. I didn’t push the car to the limit, and at the end of the day I had a lot in hand.
“I’ve not had easy weeks at the start of this season. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last, but I know we are quick.”

“It would be hard to do better than this,” said Raikkonen, who matched former driver Mika Hakkinen of Finland with 51 career podiums. “We are leading both championships, which I am happy about. The whole weekend went well.”

5. Turkish Grand Prix

“I’m right in there in the fight,” Massa said. “The competition is very high, but after some races I feel that I can be competitive everywhere and I’m just happy to reduce the gap a little bit, being similar to Lewis and just concentrate on the next races.”

6. Monaco Grand Prix
Pole Winner: Felipe Massa
Race Winner: Lewis Hamilton

After crossing the line, and talking to his pit crew via his in-car radio, a jubilant Hamilton said: “I apologise for hitting the barrier, but we made up for it. Now let’s go party!”

“Fantastic race, fantastic for the team, for me and for my country and for the fans who I thank for cheering for me here in Canada,” said Kubica after the Polish anthem had been played for the first time at a Formula One race.

“That was fantastic. I didn’t expect that,” Massa said. “Sometimes you need a bit of luck, and we got that with Kimi’s exhaust. It was a good present.
“It was a great race. We showed our performance here, we are heading in the right direction, with the team doing a fantastic job.”

9. British Grand Prix
Pole Winner: Heikki Kovalainen
Race Winner: Lewis Hamilton

“It is by far the best victory I’ve ever had,” said Hamilton. “The conditions were bad and as I was driving I thought, ‘If I win this, it will be the best race I’ve ever done’.”

“I would have much preferred to have come in earlier (for my second pit stop) but the way it worked out I knew I had a lot of work to do. They let me stay out and I just had to push hard, as hard as I could,” said the Briton.
“I really pushed, right over the limit, but it was not enough and then I had to fight my way back. So a big thank-you to my McLaren team-mate Heikki Kovalainen, who saw I was faster and did not make life more difficult.
“I had two great fights with the other guys, it was very fair and it was exciting.”
