DRIVERS: Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty
JON’S ANNIVERSARY: Jon Fogarty made his debut with the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Team at this event last year. Since his debut, Jon and Alex have earned their first Grand Am victory along with four podiums and two pole positions.
THREE FOR THREE: The #99 GAINSCO machine is off to a strong start this season! Alex earned the pole at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, while Jon qualified on the outside front row at both Mexico City and Miami. They are the only duo to have earned the front row at all three races this season.
READY TO REPEAT: The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings team finally enjoyed the sweet taste of victory earlier this season at Mexico City. While Miami was disappointing for the team, they now know HOW to win and plan to repeat as often as possible this season. With their eye on the championship title, watch for consistency within the GAINSCO team.
ALEX GURNEY ON VIR: “In my opinion, VIR is one of the best tracks on our schedule; it’s very fast and very fun for the driver. I wish there were more tracks like it with its wild esses and big elevation changes. Without the GT’s, this race weekend will play out a little differently than most. There might be fewer chances to make passes and all-out pace might be more of a priority. A good qualifying position will be even more important than normal. Lucky for us, Jon has had no trouble with that! The team always gives us a great race car so we can approach the race with confidence as usual. We really want to start putting together a string of consistent podium finishes. That’s the way we will get back into this championship. ”
