Gregor Fisken Honoured By Prestigious Scott-Moncrieff Award

The trophy, which is presented in the memory of the legendary Bunty Scott-Moncrieff, is awarded primarily for sportsmanship as well as services to classic and historic motor sport. Past winners include Barrie Baxter, Julian Bronson, Duncan Ricketts, Mark Walker and Mike Quartermaine.

The selection of Fisken as this year’s recipient is particularly apt, as he spent his formative years living and working with Bunty and his wife Avril whilst undertaking his mechanical apprenticeship. Since then Gregor has founded his own historic automobile dealership, Fiskens, and has competed in both historic and modern motor sport, including at the Le Mans 24 Hours where he raced with Aston Martin Racing Larbre this year.

Gregor was presented with the award by Bunty’s son, Humphrey Scott-Moncrieff and Bunty’s long standing friend David Holland, who both sit on the award’s selection committee, at the Kensington showrooms of Fiskens on Tuesday.

Fisken described his feeling of pride at his selection: “This is a huge honour for me. The two years I spent living with Bunty and Avril were amongst the happiest of my life. They very kindly let me race some of their family-owned cars during that time, which was a dream come true for me as a 17-year old, and it is down to them that my career in motor sport began. For me, the award is made extra special as it represents the spirit of motor racing whilst taking into account how you conduct yourself generally. For these reasons it is an amazing honour. ”

David Holland elaborated on the reasons for Gregor’s selection: “The award is engraved with the words Gregor Fisken ‘Ferrari’, and that is because of the fabulous display Gregor treated us to in a Ferrari 246 Dino at Goodwood last year. But the award isn’t just about that. Gregor is a gentleman driver in the truest sense. He drives hard and he wants to win, but if a fellow competitor has the corner he won’t barge them out of the way like so many young drivers these days. When Avril and I conceived the award 12 years ago to commemorate Bunty it was with the aim of rewarding sportsmanship, and Gregor is a true sportsman. However it’s also about recognising someone who is a great ambassador for classic and historic racing. Without a doubt Gregor fits that profile. ”

For the past two years, Fiskens have sponsored the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy, a series of European races for historic sports cars of the post-war era, whose final round takes place at Spa on 5-7 October. Gregor meanwhile is currently racing an Aston Martin DBR9 in the Le Mans Series for French squad Larbre Competition and will be in action at the Mil Milhas in Brazil in November.
