“I do not see me working with any other team”—Mark Webber

Team Red Bull

Mark Webber wants to remain a Red Bull driver for the remainder of his Formula One career.

The 32-year-old will begin his third season with Red Bull at the season-opening race at Albert Park on March 29.

Webber, who is racing to regain full fitness after breaking his leg during his Tasmania charity event, hopes to secure a multi-year deal with the team.

“I am happy with Red Bull and I hope Red Bull will be happy with me,” Webber said.

“If I keep my consistency and get everything out of the car, I will have no worries for the future.”

“I plan to stay on with Red Bull long-term. In fact, I do not see me working with any other team.”

“Driving is not like playing tennis,” he said. “A tennis player can practise before actually playing a game. I need to get in the car and go and do it to find out about things like the vibration jolts. Although I may do some karting beforehand.”

He added: “I’ve really worked hard to get in this position. There’s been some stuff in the press that I won’t be 100 per cent fit for Melbourne, which upset me. I will be 100 per cent ready to do my job.”

It promises to be a fascinating season for both Webber and Red Bull, who have snatched Formula One’s hottest young property, Sebastian Vettel, from their sister team Toro Rosso.

The Australian has competed for the Milton Keynes-based squad for the past two seasons, notching up 31 points - with a best result of a podium finish in the 2007 European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring - and comfortably holding the upper hand over team-mate David Coulthard in both qualifying and race situations.

Indeed, Webber has by-and-large had the measure of every driving partner he has had during his seven-year career in the top flight to-date, including highly-rated Germans Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg. He will have another extremely promising German alongside him in 2009, in the shape of F1’s new youngest-ever grand prix winner Sebastian Vettel - who broke all records when he sensationally triumphed for Scuderia Toro Rosso at Monza last year aged just 21 years and 74 days.
