McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton promised to stay “squeaky clean” for the rest of the Formula One season after being stripped of victory in Belgium last weekend.
He made clear that he intended to leave no room for argument in the remaining five races.
“Everyone in the team feels like we won the race (in Belgium) on moral grounds,” the 23-year-old, sounding relaxed and assured as ever.
“We just have to try our best to stay squeaky clean and stay out of trouble for the rest of the season,” added the driver, who left Spa in a state of some disbelief after his fifth punishment in 13 races.
He said: “I damn sure plan to make sure that it (his loss of victory in Spa) has no effect on it (his mood for this race and the championship). I still have a two-points lead and we are going to make sure that we continue to attack and perform like we did in the last two races.
“And knowing that we have that package makes us more and more confident. And, if anything, we can use this as our fuel to keep on pushing. I feel great. For the next few races, our car will suit the circuits just as well as it did at Spa. So we are going to make sure we do the best job we can.”
But Hamilton denies feeling vengeful. “I never feel the need for revenge,” he said. “It has been a great season battling with Ferrari, it’s a pleasure. They are a great team, and it will come down to who does the better job. It will be great to win and beat them on their home turf, like we did last year.”
