Jarno Trulli insists he has no plans to race in any motorsport series other than Formula 1 in 2010 despite details emerging of a NASCAR test next month.
The 35-year-old’s five-year stay at Toyota looks set to come to an end following the final round of this season, with the team’s president John Howett admitting at Suzuka that the Italian was “less likely” to be one of its drivers next year even though he finished second in last weekend’s race.
On Wednesday America media reported that Trulli had lined up a test with NASCAR team Michael Waltrip Racing at the International Speedway in Florida following the F1 season finale in November, prompting rumours he could be considering a switch to the stock car series. ITV
However, the 36-year-old Italian has been forced to quash all talk of a permanent move to NASCAR as he has no intention of giving up on F1. “I would like to clarify the situation regarding my NASCAR test in response to the stories. My commitment is 100% to Formula One,” said Trulli.
“NASCAR is one of the most significant motorsport series in the world and I was very curious to see the racing first hand.”
“At the time I asked the Toyota guys in the US if it would be possible to one day test a car just for fun, and before the Belgian Grand Prix they offered me the chance to do so later in the year.”
“But I want to stress this is purely an opportunity to experience another category of motorsport for personal enjoyment.” The Press Association
