Alex Gurney on Infineon: ”With Jon and I both being from California, this is another home race for us and with the way things have been going, we can’t wait to get to the race track. I’ve always loved Sears Point; it might be my favorite track in the country. It has huge elevation changes and so many challenging quick corners; it’s really a driver’s dream! Last year, Jon, while in the lead, had a run in with Tracy Krohn while trying to lap him and that put us out. So, in the end, I did not get to race there last year but we are both very excited to come back and redeem ourselves. Our Pontiac Riley package should be very strong there as usual. With just one more race left in the championship after this, and with hundreds of GAINSCO agents there to cheer us on, we are very focused on winning this race. ”
JON FOGARTY on Infineon: “Coming down to the wire - a fitting statement that we are sure to hear plenty of the next few weeks. While it would be good to be way out in front of this championship, I am excited about our position, especially as we come to Infineon. This is a great track and is somewhat of a home race for me, as my first organized auto race took place here. We had a great car last year and I expect the same this Saturday as well. We can win this weekend, not only is it our objective- it is almost a necessity if we want head into the final race of the year in the championship lead. Like I said, coming down to the wire. ”
Previously at Infineon: Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty started fifth last year at Infineon. Fogarty raced through the top five and led 11 laps before being taken out of the race by a back-marker, devastating the team’s shot at their first victory.
California Natives: Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty will feel right at home this weekend, as both GAINSCO drivers hail from the Golden State. Fogarty is a local native, he grew up in the Portola Valley and Gurney is a native resident of Irvine, California.
In the Hunt: With six victories this season, Fogarty and Gurney are in the Championship hunt. Heading into the Armed Forces 250, the American dream team sits just four points out of the championship lead. If Team GAINSCO wins both remaining races, they will walk away with the championship.
Setting Records: The GAINSCO team set a new record two weeks ago at Watkins Glen when they scored their eighth consecutive pole position. The team won both Watkins Glen races this season, both from the pole position, another record. In addition, the American duo tied the single season victory record with their sixth victory at The Glen. This weekend, they will shoot to break the single-season win record.
Lap Leaders: The GAINSCO Boys have led 495 of the 881 laps raced since the U. S. Sports Car Invitational at Laguna Seca in May (56%). They have led every race this year, except at round three in Miami. With seven pole positions and five victories, their average starting position is first and their average finishing position this season is fourth. Most recently, they led 81 of 82 laps for their win at Watkins Glen two weeks ago.
GAINSCO’s Agents: More than 60 GAINSCO insurance agents, executives, and guests will be on-hand to support the GAINSCO team in their quest to take the championship lead this weekend at Infineon. The independent insurance agents won the VIP weekend through a GAINSCO sales promotion.
MTV: Alex Gurney, Jon Fogarty, along with their shiny red No. 99 GAINSCO Pontiac-Riley will be featured in an episode of MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16. ” Kristen Alamo, the daughter of one of GAINSCO’s partner insurance agents, turns 16 on Friday and is huge fan of the GAINSCO team. MTV chose Kristen for their show and will film her 16th birthday party Friday night. The GAINSCO show car will complement Kristen’s party, and Alex and Jon have sent special birthday wishes via video. Robyn Alamo, Kristen’s mother, is one of GAINSCO’s guests this weekend at Infineon.
