The former world champion quit the sport at the end of the 2008 season to go into the World Rally Championship, but was reportedly looking to return to Formula 1 next year.
Renault claim the Finnish driver held talks with the team over a possible drive, although Raikkonen insists that they only used his name for ‘marketing purposes’.
Now his manager Steve Robertson has confirmed that the former Ferrari driver will remain in the WRC. Setanta Sports Ireland
“Yes, we have been holding pembiaraan with several F1 teams. Apart from that, I can not give anymore details, “he said.
“We do not want to return to F1. Raikkonen still focus on the rally, “said Robertson, on Friday. Sportz News
Having bluntly rebutted Renault’s advances – and even accused the Enstone-based outfit of seeking to use his name for ‘their marketing’ when he had ‘never seriously considered’ driving for them – Raikkonen has appeared increasingly intent on sticking with rallying, and Citroën competition boss Olivier Quesnel revealed only this week that ‘negotiations are progressing well for Kimi to stay in the Citroën Junior Team’ next year.
Whilst some believe that the 31-year-old’s chances of remaining with the French manufacturer are not quite so strong – with chief sponsor Red Bull reportedly apprehensive about continuing to back Raikkonen in the wake of an unconvincing, accident-strewn debut season devoid of too many solid results – another option for the ‘Iceman’ may be Ken Block’s Monster World Rally Team.
Either way, and for the immediate future at least, the door to F1 appears firmly closed. Yahoo! Eurosport UK
