Four days after his angry exit from the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Lewis Hamilton was calm and confident on Thursday as he looked ahead to this weekend?s race in Malaysia.
The 2008 world champion said he had talked to his McLaren team and understood why he was called in for a mid-race pit-stop in Melbourne—and added that his speed in there encouraged him to believe he can win on Sunday.
“Yes, I was upset and angry, of course,” he conceded.
“But I had just climbed out of the car and since then it has all been explained to me. The good thing was that we showed a lot of speed in the race, enough to put me up with the front guys and enough to win a race soon.”
After the Australian race, where he finished sixth behind his triumphant McLaren team-mate and 2009 champion Jenson Button, Hamilton accused the team of throwing away a one-two finish. AFP
The 25-year-old vented his frustration over the team radio in the latter stages of the race and was clearly still unhappy after crossing the finish line.
The 2008 champion had accused his team of getting it wrong in Australia when he lost ground after a second pit stop.
But Hamilton explained: “I have complete trust in the team, because when I’m in the car I don’t know what’s going on in front or behind me.
“There was no need to make up - we’re a team and we win and lose together.”
“It was so great to see Jenson win and I do feel at some stage I’ll get my chance to win races.
“We have good straight line speed and our race pace is strong, which is comforting.” BBC Sports
