Lewis Hamilton Is A McLaren

To celebrate the racer’s Formula 1 world title, the Isle of Man is issuing a set of six stamps this week featuring stunning images of his championship year.

As well as the stamps, a first day cover presentation pack and special sheet folder will also be produced and issued on Thursday - the day before Hamilton’s new car is unveiled.

Dot Tilbury, the Isle of Man post office’s philatelic bureau manager, said: “We are thrilled and honoured to be part of the celebrations to acknowledge Lewis’s 2008 Formula 1 World Championship and hope our stamps capture the spirit of his momentous achievement
to all his fans around the world.”

Lewis Hamilton seems to have become quite a favorite among Post-offices to say the least. This is the second time he has been considered for such an honor within the past month. The last time, it was the Royal Mail who were considering paying tribute to Lewis Hamilton by featuring the Formula One World Champion on a set of commemorative stamps.

Royal Mail’s move was highly unusual not least because Royal Mail’s release schedule for its 2009 stamps had already been drawn up. It would also have marked a further relaxation of Royal Mail’s policy of not featuring living non-royalty on stamps unless they are part of a larger group, such as England’s Ashes-winning cricketers.
