2008 British Formula 1 Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton will join the DTM event at Brands Hatch on 31 August for round eight of the popular international touring car series. DTM is a well-known territory for Lewis – in 2004 and 2005, he contested the Formula 3 Euro Series, DTM’s feeder partner series for young talent, and in only his second season he secured the title.
Motorsport fans will experience a very special on-track display at the Brands Hatch DTM event in August when Lewis takes his 2008 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car around the legendary Kent circuit.
In addition to performing demonstration laps in his Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-23 around the 1.929 km Indy circuit on raceday, the F1 superstar will take part in an autograph signing session in the paddock, giving fans a rare opportunity to meet F1’s brightest young talent.
Lewis Hamilton said: “I am really looking forward to visiting a DTM race again. At Brands Hatch I will drive my Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car to give the spectators some Formula 1 impressions. I also have fond memories of the time when I competed in the Formula 3 Euro Series which is run as a supporting event to the DTM races. I really like the atmosphere of the DTM and the great racing which the series is famous for. I very much enjoyed my 2005 season when I became the Formula 3 Euro Series Champion and when the Mercedes-Benz DTM team celebrated my title win in Zandvoort together with me. ”
Jonathan Palmer, MotorSport Vision Chief Executive, added: “We’re obviously delighted that Lewis will be joining us at Brands Hatch for the DTM event in August. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend, and I’m really excited that we’re able to offer British fans a chance to meet Lewis and see him in action in this year’s Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. ”
Between 1964 and 1986, the Kent circuit hosted the British Formula 1 Grand Prix 12 times. Among the legendary racing drivers to have won there is Niki Lauda, who took victory in 1976, 1982 and 1984. His son Mathias will be competing at Brands Hatch in his 2007 Pixum AMG Mercedes C-Class.
