Liz Halliday To Race At Le Mans

Dual-sportswoman Liz Halliday will contest her third Le Mans 24 Hours in June after Team Modena, the team with whom she will race with in 2007, were invited to take part in the legendary race by event organisers, the Automobile Club de L’Ouest.

The British based squad, who finished 9th overall and 4th in class on their Le Mans debut last season, have been confirmed amongst the 55 entries for this season’s race, meaning the event is added to an already impressive calendar which includes the 12 Hours of Sebring and the full six-round Le Mans Series.

Halliday, who contested the event in 2005 and 2006 with Intersport Racing in the LMP2 class, will now tackle the GT1 category for the first time, racing Team Modena’s Aston Martin DBR9. In doing so, Liz will find herself at the centre of an epic battle between Aston Martin and Corvette, whose cars make up over half of the GT1 field.

As well as battling with the works Aston Martin and Corvette squad, Halliday and Team Modena will compete with AMR Labre Competition (Aston Martin) and Luc Alphand Adventures (Corvette), both of whom will be running two cars, as well as teams running Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Saleens.

Halliday was understandably ecstatic that her new team had been confirmed on the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours grid: “This is fantastic news and I am really excited! For the last two years Le Mans has been the highlight of my racing season, so it is fabulous to have confirmation that I will be there again, this time with Team Modena.

“I read the Le Mans entry list with interest, particularly the GT1 category, and there are some very impressive teams and drivers competing in 2007. I think we face some really serious competition, but I’m looking forward to what should be a fantastic challenge.

“Racing in the Le Mans 24 Hours adds to an already strong programme for Team Modena and I, and we are all looking forward to getting started with the 12 Hours of Sebring next week. ”

Team Modena team principal Graham Schultz was also thrilled with the news: “Everyone at Team Modena is really pleased to have received the ACO’s invitation. Our involvement so far with the ACO has always been a positive experience and we are now looking forward to June. We ran at Le Mans last year and are proud to be involved again. ”
