No other driver in the American Le Mans Series has found more success at Petit Le Mans than Sascha Maassen, that’s for sure. A five-time class winner in the Series’ founding event, Maassen scored his first Series victory at the 1999 Petit Le Mans. Three championships and 29 victories later, Maassen is hoping to land his second straight LMP2 win at Road Atlanta for Porsche and Penske Racing’s Porsche RS Spyder.
Need for speed: “Our cars are built to last 24 hours. There is no problem. We don’t have to slow down because of the car. The drivers can do it as well. We have to step our game because our competition did that as well. Everyone goes quick so we have to go quick as well. It’s is going to be a long sprint. “
Thanks for the memories: “I feel old because for most of them I was there! I won my first race in America at Road Atlanta in 1999. Of course I’m always looking back to that. It was the start of a nice career. I also won there last year so I have good memories there. “
Hitting the Road (Atlanta): “It’s a very fast track and very challenging. With the format of 1,000 miles, it’s about nine hours. It will be a long race as well which makes it very difficult. ”
