The 33-year-old Australian, who took pole last weekend on his way to winning the Spanish Grand Prix and is many observers tip as a strong contender to lift the drivers world title this year, clocked the only sub one minutes and 14 seconds lap so far this weekend.
He recorded a best time of 1:13.826, a virtuous effort that extended the Red Bull team’s run of poles this year to six out of six races.
It brought Webber his fourth career pole after he had out-paced nearest rival Pole Robert Kubica in a Renault by three-tenths of a second.
It is the first time that the popular Australian has delivered back-to-back pole positions.
His Red Bull team-mate German Sebastian Vettel was third fastest ahead of Brazilian Felipe Massa of Ferrari, the 2008 champion Briton Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and German Nico Rosberg in a Mercedes. Telegraph.co.uk
“I told the team that laps three and four [in Q3] would be the ones I’d murder if I could,” said Webber. “The first of those was pretty good, but then on the second it all came together. To take pole at Monaco is a great feeling. It’s a great challenge for the drivers here, but I’m very glad to be here.”
Fernando Alonso, who lies second behind Button in the drivers’ standings, was forced to sit out qualifying after crashing his Ferrari during the morning’s practice session.
“He’s not doing qualifying and will start [tomorrow’s race] from the pit lane,” confirmed a Ferrari spokesman. “The damage is too excessive and we need to change the chassis, which we cannot do in two hours.” The Guardian
Nico Rosberg edged out Michael Schumacher in the duel of the Mercedes duo for sixth and seventh, with last year’s winner Jenson Button a lowly eighth, followed by Williams’ Rubens Barrichello.

Vitaly Petrov affected the outcome for Q2 when he spun his Renault early on and clobbered the tyre wall at Ste Devote, which disrupted some fast laps.
As Rosberg headed Massa, Webber, Hamilton, Kubica, Vettel, Schumacher, Liuzzi, Barrichello and Button, Nico Hulkenberg was the first disappointed runner in 11th for Williams on 1m 15.317s, ahead of Adrian Sutil’s Force India on 1m 15.318s.
Sebastien Buemi was also disappointed that 1m 15.413s was sufficient to evaporate his hopes of making it through as his Toro Rosso headed Petrov’s 1m 15.576s pre-shunt lap.
Pedro de la Rosa was BMW Sauber’s lead runner on 1m 15.692s from team mate Kamui Kobayashi on 1m 15.992s, and Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari completed the runners in 17th on 1m 16.176s. Formula 1
