Max Mosley insists he is willing to compromise on his planned budget cap but only if it allows small, new teams to compete with the big name outfits.

FOTA met on Wednesday to once again discuss their stand against the 2010 regulations in the build-up to Friday’s deadline for entries into next year’s Championship. And, according to reports, it appears as if a compromise could be on the cards with a €100m budget cap and one set of rules for all teams.

Added to that there is more good news as Mosley, who previously stated that he would not back down on his cap, has revealed that he is now willing to compromise. SkySports

Though current world championship leaders Brawn GP and traditional tail-enders Force India refused to agree to Williams’ expulsion and look set to similarly submit their entries on Friday regardless of the final outcome of the dispute, it is believed that - thanks in large part to the stringent efforts of McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh- a scenario has been reached that FOTA is confident will prove satisfactory to Mosley.

The deal is centred upon a 100 million (£87.33 million) cap in 2010, dropping to Mosley’s stipulated 45 million limit a year later.

“I am willing to compromise,” Mosley said, “but only if small and new teams can operate with much lower budgets and are not much slower than the others. I am very optimistic about a solution. The big and small teams have very different interests, and we have to protect everyone.  Yahoo! Eurosport

Ferrari will reluctantly submit their entry for next year’s world championship, marking the beginning of the end to Formula One’s civil war.

The Italians had threatened to quit the sport after six decades’ involvement unless the ruling body, the FIA, dropped their plans to introduce a £40million budget cap.

Ferrari are willing to accept a compromise solution, whereby all teams will operate under a £85m restriction in 2010 with the £40m ceiling coming in for 2011.

Today marks the deadline for entry into the 2010 championship, and all the existing teams - possibly other than Toyota, who are expected to announce their departure at the end of this, their eighth and so far winless, season in Formula One - are likely to sign up.

Not that this quite marks the end of the pyrotechnics. It is thought possible that Ferrari, who the FIA contend are legally bound to stay until 2012, may make their entry conditional on demands concerning the regulations or governance of the sport. Daily Mail

Although the deadline expires on 29 May, six months earlier than normal, the FIA will consider late entries, although delayed submissions could trigger a penalty.

There is, however, little leeway for late entries as the FIA will publish its list of accepted teams and drivers for the 2010 championship on 12 June.

A number of new teams are expected to submit entries for consideration by the FIA on Friday.

Team US F1 and Spain’s Campos Racing have already applied to compete next season while other names, including former F1 constructor Lola, are expected to throw their hats into the ring before the deadline runs out.  BBC Sports
