Mustangs To Be Featured At Fall Vintage Festival
Elkhart Lake, Wis.
Sep 08, 2007
Road America will host Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association’s (VSCDA) Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival®, September 14-16, 2007. For its twenty-second annual event, the organization will showcase the Mustang as its feature marque. The Mustang was one of the biggest hits of the muscle-car era (1964-1971). In its debut year, Ford sold over one million of the cars to buyers who were attracted to the Mustang’s high style and low cost. As a racecar it got its start with the help of Carroll Shelby and the factory later became heavily involved in the Trans Am program.
This annual racing weekend regularly attracts nearly 300 vintage and historic racecars of all types for three full days of practice, qualifying, and races. In addition to the Mustang feature race, the other models will run in nine race groups: pre-war, vintage and historic production, vintage and historic sports racing, vintage and historic formula race cars, FIA/WMC prototypes, and historic exhibition.
Fans will also have the opportunity to celebrate Elkhart Lake’s road racing history on Saturday afternoon and evening when over 100 vintage and historic race and sports cars will depart from Road America at 2:00 p. m. to take one lap of an original 1950s Elkhart Lake street race. The cars will then gather until 5:00 p. m. on Lake Street in downtown Elkhart Lake for a car show and festival. After 5 p. m. a group of special, select cars will gather at The Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake for “Gather on the Green. “
