Nico Rosberg said he would be ready to replace Heikki Kovalainen as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate at McLaren next year if the Anglo-German team decides to drop the Finn.
Rosberg, currently with Williams, said: “I have been team-mate with Lewis before so that wouldn’t be a problem. It would be fun and very tough: a combination—sweet and sour.
Rosberg added that Williams remain keen to retain him.
“I am still very pleased with my situation,” he said. “I have various good options and at the moment I am still figuring out what the best way to go is.”
“I am close to having a clear picture now of what the options are, I’m still gathering a few bits and pieces.”
Kovalainen, however, has insisted he feels no pressure on him despite a warning this week from McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh who said he needed to improve his results to keep his seat.
“I had a chat with him (Whitmarsh) and I didn’t have a feeling from that conversation that he was giving me a kick in the butt and saying that you had better deliver or you’ll be out. It was absolutely not that kind of feeling.”
