Ferrari and McLaren were among four teams who supported Renault’s appeal against their European Grand Prix suspension.
Renault were originally hit with a one-race ban at the Hungarian Grand Prix after Fernando Alonso left the pit lane with a loose wheel which later detached itself.
However, the suspension was overturned by the FIA’s International Court of Appeal on Monday and the team were instead handed a fine of $50,000 and a reprimand.
On Wednesday, the FIA published more details of the Court’s decision which revealed that four teams backed the appeal. SkySports
The FIA said the ban was overturned because there was no proof that Renault had acted deliberately.
“The Court endorses the FIA’s view that it is always necessary to have regard to the potential dangers which arise from a situation, as recent tragic incidents have proved,” the governing body added.
“However, in assessing the penalty which is appropriate in an individual case, great care must be taken not to equate potential danger with conscious wrong-doing.” Yahoo! Eurosport
