Patrick Carpentier: “It’s nice to return to a track where we were so competitive and successful”

SAMAX Motorsport returns to Daytona International Speedway on July 5 for round eight of 14 of the 2007 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series. All race activities will be concentrated in a busy Thursday with practice and qualifying running from 10:00a. m. to 2:00p. m., followed by the 250-mile sprint race at 8:00p. m. With the Daytona Prototypes sharing track time with the Rolex GT sports cars, the 3.56-mile (5.73-kilometer) track will be very active indeed. This will be the fifth time this year that both classes will race together in the same event.

The return of the SAMAX Motorsport team to the Florida track brings back fine memories of their second-place finish in the Rolex 24 at Daytona season opener with Patrick Carpentier and his teammates and the fine sixth-place result of the second SAMAX Pontiac Riley entry in which Kris Szekeres of Hartland, Michigan was one the drivers.

This time around, it will be Szekeres joining Carpentier for the second race in-a-row in the #11 Dynamic Technology Pontiac Riley. The Michigan driver joined the team at Mid-Ohio. Canadian engineer Steve Challis, who is enjoying a weekend off from his Indy Racing League duties with SAMAX, will assist the team for this event.

“It’s nice to return to a track where we were so competitive and successful, ” said Carpentier who lives in Las Vegas. “It brings back a great moment in my career when we finished second at Daytona earlier this year. However, this will be my first time running an entire event in one day and that should prove to be a very interesting experience. I know that in a month’s time, we will again have a one-day event, but this time in Montreal. “

With four top five finishes, South Florida-based SAMAX Motorsport is currently seventh overall in the Team Standings after seven races with 164 points, only five points from fifth place.

Action starts Thursday, July 5 at 10:00 a. m. with a pair of consecutive practice sessions with the Daytona Prototypes sharing track time with the Rolex GT sports cars. Qualifying for the 70-lap race gets underway at 1:45p. m. The Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona 2007, a 250-mile sprint race with a time limit of 2 _ hours, will start Thursday night at 8:00p. m. with live television coverage on SPEED

Due to the lateness of the race, a SAMAX release will be sent on Friday. SAMAX Motorsport, based in Pompano Beach, Florida, is in its third year of competition in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
