Pedro de la Rosa set the fastest lap at the wheel of the McLaren MP4-23, covering the 4.5-kilometre circuit in 1:18.992.
Nick Heidfeld was second-quickest, thereby setting the BMW Sauber F1.08 within the top-two of the timesheets for the fourth time this week. The German was just ahead of Lucas di Grassi and the Renault R28.
Sebastian Vettel, back with Toro Rosso after two days of testing with his future Red Bull team, was fourth-best aboard the STR3. Today was most probably his last day of testing with the Faenza-based outfit before switching teams at season’s end.
Sebastien Buemi, hopeful contender for Vettel’s vacated seat at Toro Rosso, was for his part back assuming his test driver role with Red Bull, setting the fifth-fastest run with the RB4.
“Today I concentrated on the mechanical and aerodynamic development of the car,” said Heidfeld after completing 98 laps in the F1.08, bringing his team’s total mileage for the week to 1,465 kilometres. “We found some promising solutions to improve the set-up of the car.”
“That was a hectic day of testing because I carried out a lot of work for the different kinds of racetracks we have coming up,” Glock revealed afterwards. “We got through a lot of laps, finishing our programme without issues.
“It’s good that we had consistent weather but it was still a bit tricky because yesterday’s rain on this new surface meant that there was only one line and the rest was really dirty. Nevertheless we made useful progress and gathered information that will help us in the final part of the season.”
