Ross Brawn Confident £8million Deal Will Keep F1 Champ Button Brawn GP

Formula One world champion Jenson Button is 99 percent certain to stay with the Brawn team next season, team principal and owner Ross Brawn said on Sunday after reports linking the Briton with rivals McLaren.

“Jenson is obviously a great driver and for those teams without their full complement of drivers, he’s got to be a target,” Brawn said. “We want Jenson to stay in the team and I think we’ll find a solution.

“Jenson has a contract with us but of course that contract is not the salary of a world champion, not the salary of a team that’s now in a much stronger position than it was 10 months ago.

“We are working with Jenson to find a balance between what we can afford and what he feels is fair for his status and contribution he can make in the future.” New York Times

Ross Brawn is confident a new £8million-a-year deal will keep Formula One world champion Jenson Button with his team next season.

Asked if he is 100 per cent sure Button will stay, Brawn said: “You’re never 100 per cent - but I’d say 99 per cent.”

He said: “It’s really difficult going into Abu Dhabi because we still want to put up a good performance there and it’s not the best environment.”

“We have a finite amount of resource, money, whatever and have to look at the best way of spending it. It’s not money that’s going to shareholders, it’s money that’s going into the team to invest and to buy the things we need to be competitive in the future.”

“We have a great relationship with Jenson and he’s been a wonderful part of the team and has done a fantastic job this year. There have been a few difficulties on qualifying this season but his race performance has been exemplary.” Daily Record
